The Penn Authority is Penn's top-of-the-line spin reel designed for saltwater fishing. There are several sizes in the range, starting with the 2500 and going up to the 10500.

While we believe most anglers looking at a premium reel like this will likely have a fair idea about what they need, we put together the Penn Authority Fishing Reel Buying Guide for anyone still not too sure.

Small-Medium Sized Models

2500 is the smallest model in the range for light to medium duty fishing. It has a line capacity of 240 yards of 10lb braid and a max drag of 20lbs. This reel is perfect for smaller fish like snapper, bream, flathead and whiting. An excellent fishing rod choice to match will ideally be one with a 3-10kg rating.

The 3500 is the next size up for medium-duty fishing. It has a line capacity of 220 yards of 20lb braid and has a max drag of 30lbs. The Penn Authority 3500 reel is perfect for slightly bigger fish like offshore snapper, river jewfish, mangrove jack, barra and other marginally more testing species. Match to a fishing rod rated between 4-10Kg.

The 4500 is the next size up again and suits a medium to heavy-duty fishing style. The Penn Authority 4500 reel is perfect for spinning the rocks for anything from bonito and kingfish to offshore species like snapper and mackerel. Match to a fishing rod rated between 8-15Kg.

Authority 5500 completes the small-medium-sized models and is designed for heavy-duty fishing. Large Sized Models

The 6500 and 7500 are the first of Penn's larger models in the Authority range. The Penn Authority 6500 has a line capacity of 335 yards of 50lb braid, making it perfect for those big fish like jewfish, kingfish, sailfish, GT and tuna. The 7500 is better if a slightly higher line capacity is desired. Match to a fishing rod rated 15-37Kg.

Extra Large Sized Models

The Penn Authority 8500 and 10,500 were designed as Penn's extra-large sized models for tackling the most brutal saltwater fish imaginable. The Penn Authority 8500 has a line capacity of 600 yards of 50lb braid; the 10,500 model increases this to 845 yards. Both models have an impressive max drag, with the 9500 at max 50lb and the 10,500 at a whopping 60lb.

Penn's biggest two are purposely built for top-of-the-line ocean fishing, rock or beach fishing. Match with surf rods rated 15Kg+ or boat rods rated 24-37Kg.

Most items are dispatched within 1-4 business days. Unless oversize generally most orders are shipped via Australia Post or Aramex Couriers. As we sell on multiple channels if there is an issue with stock supply we will get in touch with you asap.
NOTICE ON ANY SHIMANO PRODUCT: As of March 2019 If you are not based In Australia and your order contains a Shimano we cannot supply you the Shimano component of your order. All other gear is fine Just Shimano cannot be exported outside of Australia until further notice.

Here at Ocean Storm Fishing Tackle we are here for you the customer and do our best to provide the best customer experience we can possibly deliver. As part of this we understand that online shopping is a totally different experience to in store purchasing and there may be times and situations where you many need to return a product from our online fishing and outdoors store.

At Ocean Storm Fishing Tackle we want to try and make the return process easy and simple for you and here so have written this easy returns policy to give you clear understanding on your options . This policy is of course is in addition to all other rights and remedies that are provided as part of Australian consumer law.

This policy is our online policy and may differ to policies we have for goods purchased in person at our physical stores.

Our Returns Policy Faulty and damaged goods on delivery

?   Should you receive a product from us that is faulty or damaged that is not caused through your own fault, we will happily swap the item for you for an identical item or another of your choice should you wish. If there is any difference in price you can fix us up for the balance or if the difference in price is in your favour we can refund it or use the balance towards other items of your choice till funds are depleted.

?   You may also elect for a full refund if the goods are faulty or damaged through no fault of your own.

?   Goods will need to be returned and we will happily pay for the postage for the item to be returned in cases that are not your fault. Simply contact us so we can discuss.

We have been sent the wrong item by mistake?

?   It is very rare for us to muck up an order but in the off chance that we do send an apple instead of an orange so to speak, simply contact us and we will rectify the situation for you pronto. You will not be liable for any return postage costs.

Change of Mind Returns

?   In the case you have received your order and you change your mind as item is not fit for your purpose as long as you contact us within 30 days of your order being signed for on delivery, the goods are un-used and in original packaging we will gladly accommodate your needs by exchanging for other items you require.

?   In this particular case however if it is a refund you would like instead of a swap for goods we will still happily accommodate your request but the refund you will receive will be less the postage cost from us to you displayed on invoice, or in the case where a shipping promotion or coupon was received such as free shipping or a dollar amount off shipping, the refund will be less what it would normally be to ship the item without promotion (So $10 will be withheld)

?   For all change of mind returns, you will need to pay for return postage to us (registered so that there is proof of delivery) and organize your own carriage back to our store.

For change of mind returns, you will need to organize your own carriage back to our store. For small items under 105cm you can do this through Australia post. For bulky items such as fishing rods over 105cm, electric motors, surfboards, some tents, Spear guns etc. You will need to contact a courier company. Some that can generally assist you nationally are Smartsend, Interparcel or Pack and send

When returning your purchase please include a copy of your receipt not only for proof of purchase but so we can reference your order easily when it is returned.

Please include a short cover letter describing why you are returning the item and the course of action that needs to take place such as letting us know what items you require instead or to request refund as per our policy.

Faulty Items / Warranties

Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and for compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.

After a certain period of time of receiving your purchase and the product fails you may need to send your product direct to the supplier for warranty inspection. You can contact us for further advise on this should it be necessary. Goods that have failed will usually need to be inspected by supplier to determine if user error, misuse or genuine product failure whether it be minor or major.

General Points

No receipt? No problems, just contact us first so we can try and locate your purchase online to confirm you have purchased the goods through us.

If you have broken a fishing rod and more so a graphite rod, please search the internet for "graphite rod care" to understand if a rod will likely pass as a warranty or if it was caused by accidental breakage, not a manufacture fault

DVD’s and books are excluded under our easy returns policy, unless faulty.

Make sure you look after your gear! If your gear is in good order there generally should be no issues when it comes to warranty and dealing with suppliers.

We are located in Australia – If you are purchasing product to be delivered overseas we need to be upfront and honest with you – any warranty provided is for Australian consumers only and if you are overseas returning items to us it may actually not be so easy but contact us to discuss if you have any questions and we will do our best to assist you.
